Yoga Sutra 2.28

Yoganganusthanad asuddhi ksaye jnana diptira viveka khyateh

By the practice of the limbs of Yoga, impurities are destroyed and there dawns the light of wisdom, leading to discriminative discernment.

This is the introduction to the eight limbs of Yoga.  Patanjali refers to transcending the five obstacles ( Kleshas).  He says that by practicing these eight limbs of Yoga the student will attain the wisdom of the Self.

Yama niyama sana pranayama pratyahara dharana dhyana samadhayo stav angani

What are the 8 Limbs of Yoga?

• YAMA – Restraints, moral disciplines or moral vows.
• NIYAMA – Positive duties or observances.
• ASANA – Posture.
• PRANAYAMA – Breathing Techniques.
• PRATYAHARA – Sense withdrawal.
• DHARANA – Focused Concentration.
• DHYANA – Meditative Absorption.
• SAMADHI – Bliss or Enlightenment.

This lifestyle system is comprised of eight linked, yet distinctive practices: Ethical life choices, personal observances, posture practices, breathing exercises, sense withdrawal, concentration practices, meditation, and absorption.

The Doors to the Akashic Records are always open to anyone who wants to read them.  Think of them as the library of the soul.  If you need to know the answers to the heart look inside the library it holds all the records of imprints and emotions of the universe.  Think of it like Google for the ethereal.  You are the head librarian and can find the answer with an Ah ha!! The knowing knows.  It feels right even if it doesn’t give you the answer you wanted.
