Yoga Sutra 4.13

te vyakta suksma gunatmanah

Characteristics of objects whether subtle or manifest are determined by the nature of the gunas.

In book 2 Sutras 18-19 Pantajali details objects as prakasha ( knowable), krista ( active) and sthiti ( inert) and calls these qualities the gunas of Prakriti. All objects share the ability to be knowable wether or not they are manifested they may be active or inert. They all have the guna or quality of knowableness. 

Each thing seen or unseen can be known to us if we are aligned internally and externally.
